Grandview CampgroundFrom: Chris Howard and Rosie Beach CommentsWe took a jaunt into the Whites yesterday afternoon in search of Juniper Titmice. We had excellent views of one in the juniper trees in the SW corner of the campground loop. It was foraging actively high in the canopy moving from tree to tree. It took a brief trip down the ground in an open dirt area to glean from a sage. Interestingly, the Birds of the Great Basin book by Ryser (UNR Press, Great reference book) says Juniper Titmice exert this kind of foraging behaviour frequently (high in canopy/occasionally on ground/always alert). Fun to see this bird in action. Other birds there were 3 Plumbeous Vireos (heard only), 3 Black-throated Gray Warblers, Chipping Sparrows, Cassin's Finch, and Blue-gray Gnatcatchers.
