Yesterday, one, and today, six, Phainopepla were using my big Russian Olive in the Alabama Hills as a base to foray out to flycatch. I'm pretty sure all were males, but I never had all six in sight at the same time. They were giving a call I'm unfamiliar with; not like the LeConte's Thrasher's whistle, but more like a one-note warble.
