Surf Scoter at Pleasant Valley Res.

Description

A juvenile bird with 2 white patches on side of head. The rear patch was larger than the front. There was no white patch on back of head as would be seen in an adult. There was no orange or yellow on bill. The head had a clearly seen dark cap on top.
