Re: Possible "Harlan's" Red-Tailed Hawk, immature Golden Eagl...Observers: Chris Howard SightingYesterday, 6 Dec 2006, I spent some time scoping the dark-morph hawk in the field along Sunland Indian Res Rd. It was on the southern-most irrigation wheels east of the road. With the scope, I could see feathered tarsi (legs), long yellow gape, and long pointed wings, all indicative of Ferruginous Hawk. I forgot to check for the white commas at the bend of the underwing in flight. Dark Morph FEHA are uncommon to rare; Sibley says only about 10% of the population.
