China Ranch birds

Observers: Tom & Jo Heindel
Email: tjheindelataol.com
Date: 11/02/2007
Time: 05:20 PM -0500

A trip to China Ranch 31 Oct and 1 Nov this week produced the expected resident species (Gambel's Quail, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Verdin, Crissal Thrasher, Phainopepla) as well as the unexpected. A gorgeous adult male Lawrence's Goldfinch was seen both days feeding on a thistle sock at the gift shop and a very late House Wren was churring up above the old reservoir. In September they received 2.5" of rain in two days and it looked like spring with flowering shrubs blooming everywhere.
