Sighting

Hundreds of Lesser Scaup today at Pleasant Valley Reservoir, just in the first half mile or so past the dam. Also, a Pied-Billed Grebe in reddish winter plumage came up with a large crayfish, shook it violently until the claws broke off, then swallowed it. For desert, the grebe ate several of its own breast' feathers. (It can be strange out there.)
