First of all, I pity you for having to go to LA, but am glad you are trying to make the most of it by birding.

I was down there a couple months ago and really enjoyed the Marina Del Rey breakwaters. There were lots of terns, turnstones, loons, and shorebirds. The variety will most certainly be different now, but I'd give it a shot if I were you.

The other place I enjoyed was the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area. It's a good habitat in an otherwise built up valley. To get there, exit 405 on Burbank Blvd.heading west. About 1/4 mile later, turn right on Woodley Ave. Go another 1/4 mile and you'll see a parking lot on the right. I wouldn't think there would be too much there different than what's here right now, but you never know! Good luck...P.S. don't forget to lock your doors!
