A mile or so east of Convict Lake on Saturday January 8, I saw a flock of 100-200 sparrow-sized birds with undulating flight in the brush around me. They would fly around in intermingled flocks, constantly moving, landing, circling high in the air, then coming back down--for a few minutes! It was fantastic. In Peterson's Western Birds, the description of the American Pipit sounded very much like what I saw.
