We found five Burrowing Owls this morning, 15April, in the wash south of Independence where they nested last year. While there we saw our first-of-spring Lesser Nighthawk. It kindly perched on a rock 30 ft. from us, providing clear views of its primary extension (clear to the tip of the tail) , amazingly complex plumage, and rictal bristles.
