The white duck at the Bishop Sewer Ponds is a diving duck and the "butterball" shape is typical of those belonging to the genus Bucephala. The bill, nasal groove and eye color is like a Common Goldeneye while the dark orange leg color is like a Bufflehead. These two species are not known to hybridize with each other due to the Bufflehead's behavior it is thought. If you want to see a bird that isn't depicted anywhere this is your chance. Artists and photographers are encouraged to "capture" the essence of this mystery. Please post your reflections on this interesting bird.
