Surf Scoter and threee wood ducks seen this morning at Cartago Ponds in Cartago at the south end of Owen's Lake. The ponds are located at the end of Mt. Whitney St. and are best observed with a scope from the end of the road due to the cattail marsh. First winter female Surf Scoter. Hopefully one the photos came out o.k. Positively identified after being flushed by the lack of white wing patches.
