Description

Armed with a copy of Inyo Gulls folded up in my pocket, I birded the SE shore of Mono Lake. I came up with a late first winter Bonaparte's Gull (dirty lesser covs), and a first winter Herring Gull (pale inner primary edges). Also of note: a juvenile Rough-legged Hawk, a Snow Goose with Canada Geese, and a Loggerhead Shrike. Best of all were the shorebirds, as we hardly even see Killdeer these days. 57 Least Sandpipers, 6 American Avocets, and a rare Dunlin. The Avocets and Dunlin are both outside Gaines' late dates, the Avocet by nearly a month.
