What a beautiful day to check these 2 routes, all the while, "Winuba" (Ancient name for Mt. Tom) towering over us in its blanket of pure white snow, and looking highest in the Sierra Nevada. James' & Todd's female-type Barrow's Goldeneye is still present with many Common Goldeneyes and the Common Mergs were plentiful. In Round Valley a male & female Red-tailed Hawk were positively setting up housekeeping in their huge nest in a giant cottonwood, no question about it, clear as a bell! Seems on the early side. Otherwise, while Red-tails were in abundance the only other Buteo seen were 3 Red-shouldered hawks. A Coop flushed a flock of 40 Mourning Doves just over the Inyo Line into Mono.
