Sighting

A pair of hairy woodpeckers chased each other in the old willows behind our house. Some downy woodpeckers worked the branches. They were using flocks of American goldfinches and house finches sitting in the branches as lookouts. A male lesser goldfinch fluttered in, and the usual Nuttall's appeared. A Bewick's wren and white-crowned sparrows visited the suckers at the base of the willows. A red-shouldered hawk glided up, and presto, the willows were bare!
