Sighting

It poked its head out of rose while I was watching Dusky Flycatchers, observed at 4 meters. Brown back, long yellow bill with black on top. Slowly slinking around rose, watching insects. Oblivious to my presence, flushed only after I really got close to it, at which poiunt I saw white tips on the outer rectrices, and rufous in the wings. There was also a hatch year male Costa's Hummingbird zinging all morning. They are generally pretty rare in the Basin, but I've seen three in the last week - maybe it was the wildflowers this spring. Both the cuckoo and the Costa's were in the relict meadow just below the Narrows.
