Jon came by and found the bird pretty quickly this late morning after I looked all over and couldn't find it. It had come into the same feeder on the fence and then dropped to the ground and then flew up into the thick yellow-leafed locust above the feeder where it stayed for 20 minutes or more. We scoped it and saw the red patches with the broad pure white lower edge to the red. We studied the dark grey bill which was long & thinner at the base than the red-winged blackbirds. Also straight across the culmen (top of bill). In the right light, the bird had a dark blue irridesence to it. Jon got digital images through his scope, trying to show the bill as best as possible.
