The American Dipper spot you describe, Larry, many of us have been to, as it was a favorite area of Dave Gaines' for showing Mono Lake visitors and new interns this hardy little bird of the high mountain streams. Dave showed Jim and I this spot back in the early 80's and you're right, it's truly a special place. If people want to read more about the Dippers in the Basin, see Dave's book, "Birds of Yosemite and the East Slope", page 235, both editions. There's a nice sketch by Keith Hansen also.
