Sighting

female black-backed wood pecker first seen by Mike the ranger s. tufa mono lake was seen by me at about 6pm 7/28 in burn area west side of 395 just north of southern june lake junction in the burn area that one can see from 395, I was riding my mt. bike, bird flew 20 ft over my head and landed in nearby tree. Bird did not vocalize. besides the woodpecker there is a lot of bird activity in the area with the usual suspects but big numbers for so late in the day.....and such a desolate looking place.......but very cool spot steve brad encinitas/mammoth lakes
