This immature Mountain race, oriantha, of the White-crowned Sparrow was spotted in Birchim Cyn today along with a female Mac. This race of White-crowned sparrow is our local mountain nester and this bird, by its plumage, could have been born up in our own Sierra Nevada. This race winters far south of us into Mexico and points south. Note dark lores between eyes and bill.
