The Harris' Sparrow that's spent the winter coming to our feeder has molted into full breeding plumage (pg.405 NGSGuide). We've heard him sing in the meadow and are wondering if this makes him a male. He's seems to be getting more aggressive at the feeder, chasing White-crowned sparrows around, and we're thinking he's getting ready to migrate to his nesting area in northern central Canada and the Northwest Territories (according to NGS Guide). Directions: Park at gate on Barlow (north end and westside of Barlow), walk out into the open DWP lands. Follow trail and check behind the 2nd house in the rose bushes or running under the gate for the bird.
