The water continues to recede exposing more mudflats which are covered with more shorebirds. This morning we had 17 species including Snowy Plover (4), Lesser Yellowlegs (8), Solitary Sandpiper (8), Long-billed Curlew (2), Marbled Godwit (1), Semipalmated Sandpiper (4), and Baird's Sandpiper (3). As Jim Parker said, "This is the most exciting time of the year!" It certainly is if you are into muted browns scrambling across muted brown mud. The flocks may fly away on your arrival but shortly return to feed in the water nearest you. Have fun, we did!
