Today (8/16) at Bishop Sewer Ponds (noon to 1300 hours) there were at least 10, possibly 15, Baird's sandpipers in the southwesternmost pond within that is drying up and exposing little islands. Nice comparisons were possible of Baird's in juvenal plumage, western, least, and possibly one semipalmated sandpipers. Scads of solitary sandpipers, too. The next week or two promise to be the best shorebird watching of the year there.
