At the Bishop Sewer Ponds this morning (8/19) was one Eastern Phoebe. This is one heck of a claim to make because (1) eastern phoebe is one of the hardest birds to positively identify because it has no DISTINCTIVE markings, and (2) because there are no previous Inyo County records for August, or September, or until October 14. But it was an Eastern Phoebe and I studied it for over half an hour with Chris Howard & Rosie Beach, wherein we had scope-filling views in all orientations with good light. A full description will be available to all who remain skeptical. It hovered about the fence on the eastern side of the "inner realm" of the Sewer Ponds. Debby & I and John Finkbeiner checked for it again at 1300 hours, but failed to find it in a howling wind.
