Yesterday evening Erin and I saw a merlin hunting over the houses on the east end of May street. It was getting dark but while it was perched we saw it's distinctive tail banding and just as it flew away we watched as it made a quick dive and tried for what looked like a gold finch. Close but no luck this time (for the Merlin). This makes the fourth time in as many weeks that we 've seen a (presumably this) Merlin perched over the east end of May street without really making an effort to find it. It would seem early evening is a good time to look for it. PS. Keep feeding those finches!
