At 8:00AM this morning (22 Aug), Jon first heard then briefly saw a Mourning Warbler in Birchim Canyon in the same area Debby had a Red-eyed Vireo yesterday. The bird was foraging, but always in the bushes below eye-level. It seemed to be moving up canyon from the dead, broken cottonwood tree. There are only a few records of this eastern warbler listed in the Heindel Inyo graphs. Jon says this is a very early date for fall migration of Mourning Warbler, but this is the time they start showing up in the east.
