Description

I was surveying one of the ponded areas in the northeast section of the lake--saw the Franklin's Gull foraging in the water with a number of California Gulls. I thought it looked to be a first-winter bird: all dark bill, dark legs, some contrast between wings and scapular feathers, nape contrasting (lighter) with back feathers. Ruled out Sabine's due to combination of characteristics. Hope to see the bird again tomorrow and will update. BBPLs were in the same area, foraging on mud/alkali flats.
