While doing field work just E. of the Big Pine Canal by Hywy. 168, a staccato rang out that seemed different. After hearing the call to the east of my location for about 15 minutes, the culprit flew past showing a black back with a white back patch and a clean all white belly. There was also a small red patch on the head showing it to be a male HAWO. About an hour later a typical Scrub Jay ascending sreeep call was heard south of my position in Cottonwoods and Willows. Lighting was poor (looking into the sun) but I was able to make out a smaller Corvid siloette.
