The female tanager was near the gate at the east end of Birchim, she had no wing bars, a huge pinkish bill and was a rich golden yellow all over, with her wings slightly darker. The winter wren was singing its bubbly song on the trail creek crossing that has many small waterfalls and lots of bracken fern. We chatted with the trail crew asking them to be careful of nesting birds in the trees and on the ground. They were really interested in birds and are looking forward to using the NGS field guide we gave them !
