although probably not rare, i was surprised to see a grouse about 200 ft below piaute pass in the north lake drainage. the ground was about 90% covered in snow and the altitude was about 11000 ft. i wonder if this is a regular occurance? the bird may have been a juvenile quail, but i don't think so?
