Sighting

On 8 July the Brown Pelican was reported by Tom Heindel and David Quady through 9AM. A note on Calbirds by Al Jaramillo stated that there has been a northward movement of pelicans along coastal San Mateo that started early and continues with a high abundance of juvenile birds. He forwarded a post from Tom (unknown last name) stating that Phoenix and other parts of SE Arizona have had several Brown Pelicans reported this last week. Al asks if this indicates that there was a superbly successful breeding season down south for the pelicans. Also at Tinemaha Reservoir this morning were Lesser Yellowlegs and 4 Long-billed Dowitchers returning from breeding rigors to the north. Also this morning in our yard we had a female-type Black-headed Grosbeak.
