Thanks to Chris McCreedy's post and Debbie House's great directions, we were able relocate the Philadelphia Vireo around 6 PM this evening. After an hour of looking and listening to many warbling vireos, we finally heard a different vireo singing from an aspen bordering the meadow on the opposite side of the creek from the campground. We got ok views for a minute, while it sang and preened. Then it disappeared into dense foliage and continued to sing. We tried taking photos and recorded it's song. Yes, the creek crossing is gnarly (literally, cause you have to scoot across a downed aspen tree).
Click here (WAV format) for an audio file of the bird's song. It was not all that loud; we couldn't have heard it from across the creek at the campground.
