Sighting

On 17 Jan a single Western Grebe was seen floating with bill tucked at Tinemaha Reservoir. The eye was clearly in the black and the flanks were dark to the water line. If an Aechmorphorus grebe is seen from mid December to mid February it almost certainly is a Western but there is a late January record for Clark's Grebe so all Aechmorphorus grebes need to be scrutinized carefully during the winter window.
