Sighting

On 5/7/2006 we saw a single painted redstart in the Armagosa Canyon south of Tecopa. I am not sure if it will stick around, but it was found where the spring comes out of the cliff and you cross the small creek created by the spring. I estimate it is about 3/4 of a mile south and down the canyon from Tecopa. We got a great look at the bird with red belly and otherwise mostly black except for on the wings and tail. We watched for about 15 minutes as it fed and scared up insects by fanning its tail and wings to scare them up. Hopefully it will stick around so others can see it.
