Sighting

On the way home from a backpacking trip out of Virginia Lakes (the highlight there were about 8 Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches on the summit of Camiaca Peak), I scoped the mudflats on the southern end of Topaz Lake. Best birds were 2 Marbled Godwits associating with a single White-faced Ibis. There were also 4 White Pelicans and several Caspian Terns. A good scope is necessary to see the birds. About 0.5mi north of the intersection US395 and SR208 just across the state border in NV, I had a noisy flock of about 40 Pinyon Jays fly across US395. Stefan Schlick Folsom, CA
