Douglas - Great find! We found the Harris's Hawk this afternoon (26 Sept) in the freshly cut alfalfa field east of Sunland Indian Reservation Road perched on the ground and sprinkler wheels. It was occasionally harassed by a Red-tailed Hawk and Northern Harrier; indeed the Red-tailed once attacked it landing directly on its back. We thought the bird was dark-brown overall with bay coverts. The tail was black with a somewhat broad white tip. The rump and undertail coverts were pure white. The legs were long and yellow with bay leggings. The yellow cere really stood out. We got scope filling views with James and Kay Wilson, Jerry Zatorski, and Tom and Jo Heindel.
