06Dec2006- While driving past the Bridgeport Reservoir Dam, I observed 8 Wood Ducks in the first big loop of the East Walker River about a 1/4 down from the dam. 5 where stunning in full breeding plummage, while the other 3 were either females or possibley males in eclipse. All the birds were the same size, so I don't know if they were all the same sex. Anybody know? I'm always blown away by the surreal appearance of these beautiful ducks. Looks like they are painted porcelian decoys. I have also seen Buffleheads and Hooded Mergansers at this same location, always in the fall or early winter.
