Sighting

In a relatively deep dry wash south of Big Pine’s Crater Mtn, south of Fish Springs Hill and north of Birch Creek were 3 Long-eared Owls flying together up the wash avoiding our presence. According to Sibley’s illustrations, all three appear to be males due to the straight uniform width vertical white between the eyes. No trees anywhere in the area. The sighting confirms the fact they gather in small numbers in the winter.
