Hiking out and about Mammoth Creek we came face to face with a nesting Northern Rough-winged swallow. She had built a nest of twigs and pine needles and placed it on a rock ledge about 10-20 feet from the running creek. Northern RW swallows are not colonial nesters so her nest was the only one spotted in this location. It was superbly concealed and camouflaged and only a trick of the light revealed it to us.
