All dark gray bird about towhee sized. Black top of head and brick-red vent area. Bird first seen in a tree and noticed when it made a rough trill-like call similar to a Bewick's Wren which I thought it was at first. It then gave a profile with a cocked tail like a wren but the body was longer and the tail was not as thin as in a wren and the bill was short and somewhat thick. The bird then flew to another tree and as it landed it flashed the brick-red vent area under the tail. The Heindel graphs show this species recorded in the county from Sep 9 to Oct 8 so this is in the expected time period; however it is casual and many years have no records.
