Participating in today's Inyo Co. migration count, my highlight was a female PURPLE FINCH at Scotty's Castle. Other notable birds at Scotty's included a RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Willow Flycatcher, and numerous other expected migrants. Furnace Creek was similarly loaded with expected western migrants, especially warblers including several Townsend's. Non-passerines included Peregrine Falcon, 4 Sora, 1 Moorhen, 1 Virginia Rail, and an amazing 30-some Spotted Sandpipers including one hanging around the visitor center parking lot. Mesquite Spring and Travertine Spring (I'll have to check if this was someone else's territory) were productive for a few expected migrants each with an actvie Lucy's Warbler nest at Mesquite.
