Seen today near the cattails of the far west pond. This is the second sighting in the same area recently, the other sighting was May 9th, 2008. Similar in size to the coots also present but this dark rail has a white line along the side of the body, a short red bill that continues up the forehead with a yellow tip to the bill. To refind, park along the paved road looking south into the pond, scan with scope along edge of cattails about half way out (100 ft.) and maybe it can be found again. Nik and Nik's ponds is out 5 Bridges Rd, from Hwy 6, north of Bishop.
