Since my Red Crossbill sightings are mostly limited to hearing them kip-kipping overhead, I was excited (and saddened) this week to receive a request to collect one for West Nile Virus testing. Once I had the Crossbill in hand, I thought it deserved preservation, so I got permission from the donor and the State lab for this awesome specimen to become a study skin. Here are a few un-enhanced photos.
