For perspective on Debbie's great find: There are only three records for Inyo County: 21 May 1987, 31 May 1992, and 9 Jul 1992. In Kern County it is a casual spring vagrant and Gaines cites one fall record for Mono County. Most of the state's 44 records are in spring 6 May - 28 June. This species is on the review list of the California Bird Records Committee. The overwhelming majority of records are singing males and as Debbie noted the species is very secretive and hard to see, much less photograph. Females probably occur as well but being both silent and secretive results in almost no records.
