I was treated to a singing first year male American Redstart among the Tamarisk forest on the south end of the canyon this morning. This individual had a dark blotch in the center of its breast but otherwise appeared like an adult female. I only observed the bird for about 20 seconds (it was too quick for a photo) but heard the bird from about 6:30-8:00AM.
