Sighting

A crew of 14 of us counted nearly all sections of the Mono Lake shoreline on August 25th, 2008. We counted all waterbirds and raptors, minus California Gulls (PRBO already does an anual population census) and Eared Grebes (a shore count would be beyond meaningless for this species, as most are far offshore), recording a total of 46 species. Of note were a Horned Grebe at the Rush Creek Delta, 16 Snowy Plovers, nearly 1,200 American Avocets, more than 3,500 Northern Shoverlers (!), 2 Sanderling, 15 Baird's Sandpipers, a Bonaparte's Gull, and 3 Black Terns. Thanks to everyone for participating!
